In all these instances and more, breakthrough is the manifestation of God’s unfailing goodness, His everlasting mercies and incomparable power.
The Bible says:
“God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” (Ephesians 3:20)
The Bible also teaches us that “Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday and tomorrow.” (Hebrews 13:8)
What is Breakthrough?
Breakthrough is the victory that comes through the intervention of God. This victory has many aspects to it.
Often, it is victory associated with a long period of distress and affliction. This is the case with most of the miracles that happened to those who placed their hope in Jesus during His earthly ministry. They were delivered from long-standing oppression of the enemy, the kind of oppression (or affliction) shown in various types of serious or even incurable illnesses, some of which were the consequences of sinful lifestyles. Other examples included genetic problems associated with family or personal characteristics. In other situations, the distress or affliction is attributable to demonic activity or the direct attack of dark forces. These are the forces of evil which operate outside the cause-effect principles of rationalisation and science. These forces operate mysteriously to destroy people’s health and best chances in a way that cannot be explained by science or human logic. Satan is always behind such manifestations and only the power of God through Christ Jesus can deliver his victims from his power and influence.
Breakthrough is also a type of victory that God grants in situations of recurrent personal or family failures. Some of these failures can be caused by particular persistent personality tendencies that adversely affect people’s potentials, make life hard for them, or simply deny them the fruit of their labours. They seem to be toiling and struggling against unseen forces which repeatedly frustrate their progress in life. Failure or lack of progress in life can also be caused by sudden inexplicable and unforeseeable contrary conditions which regularly plague such people and render them largely unfruitful, no matter how hard they try.
Another type of breakthrough that we see in the ministry of Jesus and in the Bible generally is associated with people who because of their birth or background, their upbringing or early personal choices are not expected to make it in life. As a consequence, it appears that they are destined to be far less than God intends for them. However, when they turn to God in prayer and surrender their circumstances to Him, their destiny changes, and their life becomes an example of how nothing is impossible with God.
EVERYTHING COUNTS
1 John 5:4 – “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith.”
Jesus Christ is the most important person that we can ever get to know, just by asking! There are numerous stories of how hundreds of people queue out in the cold, keep a vigil, or do something audacious just to see their famous person, or get some famous autograph. In the days of Jesus, hundreds of people followed Him from place to place, hundreds more ambushed Him from city to city, and hundreds more camped and waited for Him once they knew His destination. They were all trying to get to know Jesus for various reasons.
You may say the story is different today, not many people really desire to meet Jesus. But surely, there are many enough, and if you are one of them, count yourself blessed! In getting to know Jesus, everything counts – especially, when you have to lay things aside which you had considered precious to you.
Strange enough we can never get close enough to know Jesus without giving up something: firstly, we give up our self-righteousness. We begin to see our actions through the eyes of Jesus. That brings us to repentance because our acts of self-righteousness can never meet the standards of God. The Bible is right: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) The only way to be forgiven is to confess our sin and ask God to give us a brand new life through Christ.
Next, we desire to fellowship with Him. Not a small step because it involves becoming a settled member of a particular Church, listening to the Word of God, learning and putting into action what we have learnt, and participating in the mission of the local Church. Here is where many people go astray, they dodge Church, they dodge the Word of God, they also dodge the work of Christ. Dodgers usually put other things before God. Those other things squeeze them out of the sight of God, and squeeze God out of their life. They drift from Church to Church, then cease to serve Christ altogether. Dodgers don’t succeed in Christ, they wither away and are cast away like dry branches of no use to the kingdom of God .
So you see, everything counts if you wish to press on in your relationship with Jesus Christ. We can never experience the victory that is in Christ Jesus until we have taken those two vital steps: forsake our sin, cling to God through Jesus Christ. Once these are in place, all the other moves in our life are ordered by the Almighty God. Then we can say without any shred of doubt: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Our breakthrough weekend is an annual deliverance programme, giving everyone that attends the vital chance to tap into the miracle-working power of Jesus Christ by faith. Living faith is very rare these days - it has been driven away by the great thirst for material goods, the relentless grasping for things which satisfy the five senses. Many believers are unable to walk by faith these days, they walk by mammon!
Wake up, God has something much more important for you than your daily bread - a fresh anointing of His grace that breaks the yoke of slavery in the life of His people. May something wonderful, something amazing, something glorious be your portion in Christ as you participate in His blessed fellowship in your local Church. Victory is yours through faith in Jesus Christ!

When we come to God through Christ Jesus what God can do for us is really no secret!
For instance, when Perez was born, this is how it happened: “Then it happened, as he drew back his hand, that his brother came out unexpectedly; and she said, "How did you break through? This breach be upon you!" Therefore his name was called Perez.” (Genesis 38:29)
When David defeated the Philistines at Baal Perazim, this is how it was recorded: “So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, "The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water." Therefore he called the name of that place Baa
l Perazim.” (2Samuel 5:20)
In another story, we read of Jabez as follows: “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him in pain." And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested.” (1Chronicles 4:9-10)
These straightforward stories of breakthrough are typical in the Bible. However, the Bible also contains stories of great complications and complexities demonstrating the matchless grace of God as He steps into people’s complicated and complex lives to deliver them from the oppression and affliction of Satan; as He breaks the chains that held them back in life, making the crooked places straight; breaking the gates of bronze; cutting the bars of iron; setting captives free; replacing adversity with prosperity; turning ashes into beauty; removing the spirit of heaviness and clothing those who trust in Him with garments of praise. God has not changed. He is still in the business of saving lives and defeating the plans of Satan! “The Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1John 3:8)
